Volunteering update

I first started volunteering at my local food pantry in March of last year. One of the first things that I do when I come inside the food pantry is  I check the green bins and sort the produce. If there's any bad produce I throw the produce in the compost bin.

One of the things that is difficult for me is to tell the difference between different kinds of produce like different kinds of potatoes, zucchini and cucumber, nectarines and tangerines for example. If I don't know how to tell the difference between different kinds of vegetables or fruits, I ask one of the fellow volunteers for help.

If any products come inside the food pantry's doors, I put the products where they belong like for example meat. There are many different kinds of meat like turkey for example. When I put away meat, I read the label on the package so I know where it belongs.

Another new thing that I recently started learning while volunteering is volunteering at the front of the food pantry where there is tea, coffee, water, olive oil or example. There's many different kinds of tea like mint tea and others and I will put the tea right next to each other. I do the same things when I put away oil.

When boxes come inside the food pantry, I will sort whatever that's in the boxes. For example, if there's any cheese I will put the cheese in the first freezer of the food pantry which has dairy products. When the box is empty, I put the boxes outside.

Most of the time if I see a bin that has stuff that goes inside the food pantry, I will take the bin inside the food pantry. If the bin is full and it's too heavy for me to lift, I ask one of the other volunteers for help. I try to lift any bins that are easier for me to lift.

Besides sorting and putting away stuff, I also like to greet the clients that come to the food pantry. It makes my day when I help out others at the food pantry. I thank God that He provided for me in this way to serve others.
